"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27

a wish and a prayer

October 27th. It's Jamesley's 2nd birthday.

I wish Jamesley was here to celebrate with us; We would have candles and his favorite cake. He would hear "I love you" at least a dozen times. I would smooch his sweet caramel cheeks and tell him how precious he is to us. We would give him the biggest bouncy ball we could find because that is his favorite type of toy. But he's not here, and we can't do those things. So we continue to hope in our Lord to make this situation beautiful, whatever beauty looks like to Him.

Today we are celebrating his life and remembering what a blessing his little self has already been to us. At just 18 months old, he stole our hearts, and God showed us just how much our hearts could expand through even just the possibility of him joining our family.

While we have no idea what the future holds, we do know who holds the future. For us and for sweet Jamesley. We cling to Jeremiah 29:11 and believe wholeheartedly that God has a perfect plan and purpose for Jamesley's life.

Our prayer for Jamesley is that he will truly experience and know the love of Jesus, the all encompassing, unpolluted, untainted, overwhelming love that our Jesus has to offer.
Not the superficial kind, not the kind where a child is taken from his family and placed in a creche and taught songs about Jesus.
No. There is far more to Jesus' love than just learning a song.
We pray that as he grows up, wherever that may be, that Jamesley senses the presence of God every single second of each day, that he knows God is right by his side for every smile and every tear. Because in all reality, that is all that matters.
We pray that God will use Jamesley's life for His kingdom, changing others as he lives a life worthy of the calling of Jesus.

Jamesley doesn't need to come to our house or even to America to know Jesus. We know that God will meet Jamesley exactly where he is and will reveal Himself at just the right time and in a way so unique to him that it will be undeniable that God loves him beyond anything he can comprehend. We know this because our Lord did that for both James and I. We have no doubt He will do it for Addi and Selah...and "our" three in Haiti too.

Today we celebrate, and we will continue to wish and pray. And always trust the Lord.
